Loot skins are a hot topic in gaming right now. What are they? How do you get
them? And why should you care about them? Let's find out! First, what are loot
boxes or loot crates? Loot boxes are virtual containers that contain items of
varying rarity. These items can be anything from new character skins to game
boosts and other benefits. They're also often called crates because there is
usually an image of a crate on the front cover. When players purchase these
boxes, they don't know exactly what will be inside until it is opened by the
player who purchased it. 
The contents may depend on luck, but more often
than not, they depend on how much money was spent when purchasing the box or
crate in question. When discussing the topic of loot skins, there are usually
two main types of loot boxes that can be discussed: loot boxes containing skins
and those containing other items such as boosts. Skins in these types of loot
boxes or crates can vary from event to event, similar to limited-time exclusives
at popular theme parks where only a certain amount of people will ever own that
specific skin.
For example: during Christmas 2016, Blizzard (the
creators and developers behind Overwatch and the Starcraft series) introduced a
"Winter Wonderland" event that included an exclusive skin for one character;
this was called Snowboarder Zarya. This skin could not be found in any other box
aside from those bought during the Winter Wonderland event. This is one of the
reasons that players look forward to events such as this; they get to pick up a
unique skin that cannot be found anywhere else. When it comes to loot boxes
containing boosts, these types of crates/boxes do not contain new Skins but rather in-game benefits such as
reloading faster or being able to take more damage.
These types of boxes
can be purchased with real money or in-game currency, which a player may have
accumulated throughout online gameplay. They usually cost around $1 in real-life
currency in order for one box full of items to be unlocked and opened by the
player. In Overwatch, loot crates are also available when levelling up your
profile from level 1 to level 100 if you have reached that milestone already.
If you have not, then loot crates are unlocked when you reach level 25.
The benefit of purchasing these types of boxes or crates is that gamers receive
a randomized piece of gear to use in the game, which can sometimes be more
powerful than your normal items and weapons available to a player at a given
time. These boosts also work well if you're going up against other players who
have better gear than you do because it can give you an advantage above them.
Loot crates and boxes are hard to ignore in the
gaming industry. They cost almost nothing to make, but they bring in an enormous
amount of money each year for companies like Blizzard because players purchase
